This made it easier to set up the device as the selection was all rounded and I was in a position to start using the device immediately.

Design

The first thing that caught my attention when I started to unbox the itel Power 70 handset was the classy slender look. It was as thin as 7.9mm and weighed only 192.4 grams, a feat that was unusual when one considers the fact that it came with a large battery capacity. ​

It comes in four colors namely black, bronze, marine, and silver and each color gives the phone a unique identity. For this I chose the Bronze, which was a bit more understated without being plain boring or flashy at the same time. ​

Among them, the most notable is the IP54, which means that the device is protected from both external dust and accidental water splash. This was particularly reassuring during instances of light showers and whenever it was in use in dusty areas, knowing that it can handle the rigors of the day. ​

The side mounted fingerprint scanner is a part of the design and it makes the unlocking of the device quite smooth and easy. This placement somehow seemed natural particularly when using the thumb to pick up the phone. ​

However, while the plastic back panel adds to the fact that the phone is light, it does not give a premium feel as much as the glass or metallic finish. In addition, it is a material that gets easily fingerprinted; thus, one has to clean it frequently to retain the sheen.​

Display

When holding the itel Power 70 for the first time, I was impressed with the phone’s 6.67-inch HD+ IPS LCD screen. The size and the 20:9 aspect ratio were quite helpful when reading articles and scrolling through social media.

I was shocked to discover that it is a device with a 120Hz refresh rate. Web page scrolling and navigating through the apps were fluid, an experience associated with high-end device.

In most conditions, the brightness of 700 nits ensured readability of the texts on the screen. Inside, it was bright enough, and outside, I did not find it difficult to read message or check my emails.

However, the screen size and its resolution of 720×1600 pixels which gives pixel density of about 263 pixels per inch was a downgrade. During the streaming of videos or when I opened high resolution pictures, I observed that the quality was not as clear as in devices with higher resolution.

A somewhat small issue was the brightness of the screen in response to direct sunlight. While using the itel Power 70, I sometimes had to tilt the display or look for a shady area to watch a video or anything on the screen with comfort at 700 nits.

As for the screen, the itel Power 70’s display is reasonable for the price segment it is placed in. The size of the screen and the high refresh rate improve daily usage and the brightness settings are suitable for almost any environment. 

Despite the fact that the resolution and the visibility outdoors can be improved, these shortcomings are not critical to affecting the overall experience of the users.

Camera

During testing, I found it extremely fascinating to explore the camera system of the itel Power 70. Having a rear camera of 13 MP, I went out in the afternoon, during the sunny weather, to take pictures of a local park. The photos produced were of good quality in terms of the color reproduction and details and all this in a device that is in this price bracket. HDR mode proved to be very useful, as it helped to capture both the overexposed sky and the shaded areas of the scene. ​

As for the low-light photography, it was good enough, fairly bearable at least, but still not very impressive. Although it produced some noise, especially in low light, the built-in LED flash proved useful in making evening shots possible. The available features such as panorama and AI scene were beneficial in enhancing the flexibility of the camera as I could switch to wide angle lens and adapt to different environments. ​

The 8MP front camera was a good improvement to the previous versions. As people were gathering at home for the dinner I decided to take several selfies and the outcomes were great. The beauty mode made the facial features look smoother and more polished without going overboard so as to make the photos suitable for uploading on social media. Video calls were also good, and there was not much difference in the performance of the front facing camera. ​

It is capable of shooting videos in 1080p, which I had an opportunity to explore during my friend’s birthday celebration. The video was good and recorded the energy of the crowd effectively. However, I noted the lack of some highly useful stabilization options, therefore, extra caution was required to achieve a steady shot. ​

One limitation which I faced was absence of night mode. Although the camera works relatively well in low light, a night mode could have been even better to capture low light images.​

Performance & Software

In terms of performance, the MediaTek Helio G50 Ultimate is present with up to 6 GB of RAM to ensure smooth running of the device for everyday use. As for the work with the applications or web surfing, the device runs smoothly, but the performance in games may be less impressive.​

In the software department, the itel Power 70 comes with Android 14 as the base with a customized skin of itel OS 14. It’s easy to operate and has some of the cool features such as the AI scene detected and the HDR mode in the photography.

Therefore, the itel Power 70 is a good example of the company’s commitment to offering value to its customers. Some display features, as well as the entire processing power, may not meet the expectations of users who expect the best from their devices in terms of performance. This feature ensures that even in those rare occasions that I may need to take a break or step away, the process is very fast and hence rarely do I have large gaps of time that I am not productive. ​

The itel Power 70 is endowed with a good battery and charging system that meets my expectations. The capacity, the charging speed and the charging case that is used to charge the phone has made it possible for me to use the device for as long as I want without running out of battery power.

The itel Power 70 Price in Bangladesh is BDT 10,990 (Official) with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. However, given the fact that there is stiff competition in the Smartphone market in Bangladesh, some might consider the price as slightly on the higher side compared to other brands. 

Still, there is a 10,000mAh battery and a MediaTek Helio G50 Ultimate chip which makes it appealing to customers who need battery life and stable performance.

Verdict

​Summing up the experience with the itel Power 70, I must note that the battery was a lifesaver during the day due to its 10000 mAh battery aided by the charging case. The MediaTek Helio G50 Ultimate processor along with up to 6 GB RAM supported powerful multitasking on the device. The 6.67-inch HD+ display was vibrant, but due to 263 PPI, the display was not very sharp. It is a solid choice for budget-conscious users.
